Hauss Home Design - Hi there. I'm Veronica Belmont. Today I'm going to show you how to set up your home entertainment system,so you can be sure you're getting the best HD experience possible. First, place all the components where you want them. Here's our HDTV, our Blu-ray disc player, and our surround sound system. This cable here is called an HDMI cable. It transfers HD video and audio between devices.
HDMI cables are the way to go becauseyou only need one cable for each component, and the signal is 100 percent digital. That means you're getting the best possible picture and sound quality. First, you'll want to connect your Blu-ray disc player to your surround sound system. The best way to enjoy true high-def movies at home is to watch Blu-ray disc movies. Then connect your surround sound to your HDTV. If you have cable, your next step is to connect yourbox to the surround sound system.
And remember, if your service or surround sound device is not HD, you won't be able to enjoy HD picture or sound quality. Now you're ready to watch some amazing high-definition entertainment. Well, we're not quite done setting up yet. Now you can choose between the devices you want to watch. Go directly to the input button by pushing the direct access button on the remote. This one is labeled Blu-ray TV.
This surround sound system is 5. 1 channel. That means there are five speakers and one sub-woofer. For optimal sound, place two speakers in the rear of the room angled towards you, and place two speakers in the front of the room next to your HDTV also angled toward you. Then place the slim center speaker centered just below you HDTV. The sub-woofer can be place on either side of your entertainment center depending on your set up.
There should be some space, about half a foot, between the entertainment center and the sub. Some surround sound systems have a feature to help you optimize your speaker placement. You simply place the included microphone where you'll be seated and settings are automatically optimized based on the distance and placement of you speakers. Yeah, that's why I love technology.
There's a great new feature on some of the newer HGTVs and Blu-ray disc players--wifi connectivity. That means you can stream online entertainment through your wireless home network to your TV. Voila! Now you can be sure you'regetting the most out of your HDTV and surround sound system. This is Veronica Belmont with Sony for Howdini. For more great tips and ideas, go to sony. com/howdini.
